Trailteam Noticeboard

As we prepare for the summer projects, we will keep in contact with regular email updates. That information along with general news items and useful links and tips will be added here on our Noticeboard.

If you have any questions about any aspect of preparations for the placements, please get in touch: Thorsmork@trailteam.is

  1. Facebook group for our 2019 team

We know that many of you are excited to meet your teammates and later this week we will open a Facebook group for volunteers joining us this summer.

We will continue to use emails and this noticeboard to keep you updated as we prepare for the summer projects. Not all of our volunteers are active on Facebook and we don’t want to miss anyone out so we will share any important information from the Facebook group here on the noticeboard.

We will create the WhatsApp groups when registration is completed in April.

  2. Bus to Thórsmörk

We would like to begin the projects at lunchtime on the start dates so that means our volunteers travelling from Reykjavik should catch the 08:00 bus (Route 9) from the BSÍ Coach Terminal, operated by Reykjavik Excursions (Kynnisferðir). This bus is expected to arrive at Húsadalur in Thórsmörk at 12:00-12:30, where we will meet it.

We ask our volunteers not to book their bus tickets yet as we will contact Reykjavik Excursions about possible discounts for our teams. As soon as we know more, we will pass the information to the teams. In the past Reykjavik Excursions have been extremely kind and supportive of our projects in Thórsmörk.

    More about bus tickets soon…

  3. Hostels in Reykjavik

Most of our volunteers will be making arrangements for at least a couple of nights in Reykjavik. There is now a huge number of options for accommodation and if you are still trying to decide where to stay, maybe this article that we found in Guide to Iceland could help provide some ideas…

  4. Applications now closed

We received the final placement applications on Friday and hopefully the remaining places will be allocated following a final round of Skype meetings next week. We are planning to host approximately 50 international volunteers this season and the team list currently includes participants from 12 countries. We are delighted to welcome back so many old friends from previous seasons as there has been a particularly high number of applications from returners this year.

As our six weeks of team selection comes to an end, we now start to focus on preparations for the work.
