Johnny Rolt and Ollie Campbell have made a short film about their experiences volunteering with us in Thórsmörk last summer. As well as a taste of life at the volunteer camps, the film visits our projects and worksites in Thórsmörk, Goðaland and along the Laugavegurinn trail. Congratulations to Johnny and Ollie on this amazing work. It’s beautiful!
Placement dates and application forms for our 2018 volunteer programme are now available.
We are putting together an international volunteer team that will join us at our camps in Thórsmörk next summer. We have volunteer placements for two or six weeks and there are longer placements for volunteer team leaders with our Operations team. No previous experience of trail construction is necessary as training will be provided. Participants organise their own travel plans and join us at the meeting point. There is no participation fee.
We will start allocating placements as soon as applications reach us so if you would like to join us in Thórsmörk in 2018, don’t delay!
After a short break we will begin preparations for next season. Full details about our 2018 programme including placement dates and application forms will be published here on December 15th. Interviews and placement allocations begin in the new year and applications will be open until January 31st.
Since we began our work in Thórsmörk five years ago, each season has ended with a visit by a team of volunteers from the International School of Zug and Luzern in Switzerland. The students help with the end of season tasks which include trail maintenance, erosion control work and planting as well as construction and maintenance at the Langidalur volunteer camp.
These groups have been with us from the start and are an important part of our programme. The teams help us to finish the season’s work tasks and their energy, hard work and enthusiasm are hugely appreciated.
During their September visits the students have worked in all kinds of weather but this year the team found themselves in sunshine for much of their visit. Perfect conditions for making a video about their adventures in Thórsmörk…
We have created this site to bring you news about our volunteer projects in Thórsmörk and Goðaland. As well as an outline of our summer programme, the site includes information for volunteers taking part and details about how to get involved. The Thórsmörk trail maintenance programme is coordinated by Land and Forest Iceland (Land og Skógur).
