Volunteers wanted! Trailteam applications for 2026 are now open

Today, we begin our search for volunteers who will join us in 2026.

We are very excited to begin gathering the team for next season. Our new programme includes both three and four-week volunteer placements, and our planned trail maintenance and conservation projects continue throughout Thórsmörk and Goðaland next summer. Places are limited, and allocations begin in the New Year, so if you would like to join us next summer, don’t delay!

Looking back at 2025… Pictures from our adventures last summer

We have collected some of our favourite pictures from last season that were taken by our volunteers. They show our teams working on the trails and capture everyday life at the Langidalur volunteer camp. Many great memories of our amazing teams and our time together last summer.

New bike trails in Thórsmörk

Last season, our trail management work in Thórsmörk included improvements to the bike trails and the creation of two new routes. These changes mean that Thórsmörk now has more than 5 km of marked bike trails for visitors to enjoy.

The main aims of this work are to manage safe access for both hikers and bikers and improve the experience of visitors. These designated routes avoid busy hiking trails and are designed specifically for bikes. The trails are marked in yellow, and signs are being added.

Development of the trail network continues, and some exciting new routes are planned for 2026. Up-to-date information can be found on the Thórsmörk bike trail map.

Thank you to our volunteers!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the trails this season. This year, we were joined by 44 international volunteers, and together we completed more than 150 weeks of trail maintenance and practical conservation tasks throughout Thórsmörk and Goðaland.

Our last October task was to survey the worksites and take a look at all the season’s projects. It was very encouraging to see so many repaired sections, and the improved drainage has clearly been working very well. Despite some remote locations and the challenging conditions, a huge amount was achieved this season, and the results speak for themselves.

We really enjoyed working with such great teams and hope that our volunteers have good memories of their time with us on the trails and their adventures in Thórsmörk.

Final call for volunteers for our 2025 Trailteams!

Applications for our Thórsmörk Trailteams will close this week as we are nearing the end of our search for international volunteers who will join us this summer. If you would like to apply, please do get in contact by February 11th.

We are looking for participants who have some experience of camping and hill walking, enjoy wilderness landscapes and are ready for a challenge. Iceland’s notoriously changeable weather means that our teams have to be well prepared with warm clothing, good waterproofs and sturdy tents. Due to the strenuous nature of our work, participants must be physically fit and as many of our work sites are in remote locations, we do a lot of hiking to get to them!
Our team is chosen from applicants and there is no participation fee.
