03, Travel insurance
All of our volunteers are required to organise their own travel insurance. It is very important that everyone has adequate travel insurance in place to cover them during their visit to Iceland. Travel insurance should cover medical issues as well as your baggage and any personal equipment that you bring with you.
There is a large choice of travel insurance providers available but the company most popular with our volunteers last season was World Nomads who specialise in adventurous travel and provide policies for people from a large number of countries. Other examples of travel insurance companies used by volunteers last season include: Insure and Go, AXA Insurance and Allianz Assistance. Please include your travel insurance details on the Volunteer Registration Form.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
In addition to travel insurance, European volunteers should also also bring an EHIC which entitles European citizens to health care at local cost. Receipts from the medical care must be presented to your travel insurance company when making a claim. The EHIC is not an alternative to travel insurance and you should have both. EHIC cards are free to apply for but you have had your card for some time, check to make sure that it is still in date.
UK volunteers – Please note that UK issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) are no longer valid in Iceland. At this time, it’s successor the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is not valid as it can only be used in EU and not EEA countries (Source: Gov.uk).
