Trailteam Noticeboard

As we prepare for the summer, notices and updates will be added here. We will email our registered volunteers to let the team know each time new information is added.

If you have any questions, please get in touch:

  1. Meet the team – Join the WhatsApp group lists

In addition to email, this season we have been using WhatsApp to connect to our volunteers and answer questions as we prepare for the summer. When the teams have been finalised at the start of April, we will set up group lists so that participants will have the opportunity to contact each other before the start of the placements.

Contact with teammates might be useful on the start day, during travel or if volunteers would like make plans to meet in Reykjavik before they join us in Thórsmörk. It may also be useful to have contact with each other during preparations in the weeks before arrival.

We will continue to use our homepage and emails to keep our volunteers informed of developments as we prepare for the summer. The WhatsApp contact lists are optional and have been added simply to improve communication between participants before the projects get underway.

If you would like to join our WhatsApp groups, please add your contact details here:

(Please note: The WhatsApp groups will only include volunteers who have registered for a team)

  2. Free bus tickets for our volunteers

Our friends at Reykjavik Excursions (Kynnisferðir) have supported the programme since we began work in Thórsmörk in 2012. Once again this season they have kindly offered bus tickets for the teams so that our volunteers can travel from Reykjavik to Thórsmörk (and back) for free!

The groups will meet at 07:30 the Reykjavik BSI Coach Terminal on their start date (Sunday morning) ready for a 08:00 departure (Route 9). The bus arrives at Volcano Huts, Húsadalur at about 12:00 which is its first stop in the Thórsmörk area. We will meet the bus when it arrives.

It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the Langidalur Volunteer Camp (2km). Once we are back at Langidalur, we will have lunch together and welcome the new arrivals. The main aim for Sunday afternoon is to establish the camp, settle in and explore the area. Our practical work begins on Monday morning.

At the end of the placement, volunteers will be able to take the bus back to Reykjavik on Saturday morning which departs at 08:00 and arrives in Reykjavik at 11:05.

Participants may join these group tickets or they make their own independent travel plans if they wish. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide free tickets for alternative routes or times.

If you would like to be added to the group ticket for the 08:00 bus, please confirm by email:

(Please note: As the bus schedule is seasonal, we will make alternative arrangements for participants travelling to our projects in early May and October).
