Phones and internet

Iceland_road_sign_E06.61.svgPhone cover in Thórsmörk and Goðaland
Mobile phone cover at our Langidalur base camp and at our Básar camp is good. Please note however that our wilderness camps and many of our work sites have limited or no cover.

There are no public payphones in Thórsmörk and Goðaland.

Buying an Icelandic pay-as-you-go SIM card
If you would like to buy an Icelandic SIM card, there are really 2 options to consider. Both Síminn and Vodafone have good  cover in Thórsmörk and Goðaland (It has been suggested that Síminn have greater cover nationally, so if you plan significant additional travel in rural areas, this might be the best option.).

You can pay-as-you- go SIM card from Síminn at Keflavík Airport both at Elko and 10/11 and at the tourist information, on board Icelandair flights or at the nearest Síminn shop. The price for the prepaid package is 2000 ISK which includes credit for the same amount. More information…

You can buy the starter pack from Vodafone on Iceland Express flights, at the tax free store in the arrival hall in Keflavík Airport or at any Vodafone store. Prepaid numbers, where to buy.

Access to the internet
There is no wifi access at our camps, however there is limited access at the nearby cafe/restaurant at Húsadalur (which is about 30 minutes walk away). The placements are an opportunity to take a break from technology!
