Pictures from the Laugavegur hike…
This is the first summer that we have included a “hiking week” in the volunteer programme and this has been done so that our teams can complete the “Laugavegur Trail”. The 55km trail from Landmannalaugur to Thórsmörk has become the most popular long distance trail in Iceland and our volunteers are involved in practical maintenance projects along it.
During their hike our teams will be camping along the way so participants must bring good quality lightweight tents that can be carried with them. Good quality waterproof clothing and shoes suitable for river crossing are also essential on this trail!
The mountain huts and the trail itself are managed by our friends at Ferðafélag Íslands and they have published a page with useful information about the hike on their website. We thought that volunteers preparing to join us this summer might like to see these pictures from a group who completed the Laugurvegur hike as part of a tour with the Icelandic Mountain Guides in 2011.
