New Thórsmörk LTV Team – Volunteer Leaders Wanted!
We are launching a new Long-term volunteer (LTV) project in Thórsmörk this summer and are now looking for experienced volunteers to join us for placements of 8-12 weeks. The LTV team is at the centre of the Forest Service’s Thórsmörk Trail Volunteer programme as their responsibilities include leading volunteers, organising camps, managing work tasks and providing logistical support to volunteer groups working on sites throughout Thórsmörk and Goðaland.
LTV placements combine these leadership and project support roles with practical conservation tasks including trail mapping, survey work, GPS data collection. Our volunteers are also involved in a special erosion repair project in badly damaged areas close to the fresh lava from the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. LTVs work with our summer staff and Wilderness Management Teams as well as groups from our partner organisatons. The LTV team will have the opportunity to complete the famous 4-day Laugavegur hiking trail from Landmannalaugar to Thórsmörk.
We are looking for volunteers with some experience of practical conservation work and working with teams. Practical skills and leadership training will be provided at the start of the placements. Due to the strenuous nature of our work and remote work locations, participants must be physically fit. Applicants must be over 20 years of age.
